If this is just a reupload of the old dvd rips then hark0n is way better than anything else and I've compared pretty much every main release. Only problem with hark0n's release is that he has only done the first tv series and the movies, but if he finishes the entire series then it will probably be the definitive version. Actually I went ahead and downloaded the first episode to check and it isn't great: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/134896/

What's your recommendation for releases of the R through Stars TV episodes currently, Sly?

The best version available video wise would probably be koten_gars. IIRC the subs are just the dvd vobsub so if you want non-ugly versions then you would have to rip the SMC subs and mux them into the koten_gars video, but SMC hardcoded the KFX so you won't get those. Obviously that's kinda a pain in the ass so for most people I would just go with the newer version of the SMC release (the h264 encode from the R2 dvd) even though the video quality overall is cancer.

That isn't a missing font, he just styled it to match the japanese subtitles. There is no kfx in the hark0n version, but the kfx in the SMC version is hardcoded so you would have to make it again to copy it.
