How was the first part "laughably bad"? I have a watch count of over 340 days, and this is my favorite series of the decade, I've even re-watched the whole thing already. I get other people not liking the 3DCG, or it not being the type of show they like. But we almost never get shows like this that are actually produced well. The story pacing is really great too with really nice character arcs. The music and art in the adaption are top notch, as is the animation. The biggest issue is the 3DCG scenes with 3d soldiers or boats in the background, but luckily they only last like 1-2 seconds before they go back to being 2d, it's not a huge issue but if they fix it up for the BD's then it will be amazing.
