I´ve been seeding the previous Judas Bleach releases. I commented on the first batch that the quality is like 30% better in sharpness and color compared to the 24.4GB AnimeRG release 1-366 dual audio. I really appreciate the small size of that, so I keep it and seed it, but I download all of Judas´ Bleach releases because they are also not that big + the quality is not to be ignored there.
@excaliburzone
You also said that "Listen guys, dont waste your time with the over 100GB batches. The quality on those is not that better than this", which is false. I did a caparison between the 2jzgte release and Judas release, and I found Judas release to be slightly softer with blocking in it because the bitrate is too low.

Whilst it is fair to say that our release may not be as high in quality as some other significantly larger alternatives, which is something we don't try to hide, your screenshot comparison is very unfair to both sources: the screenshots have been taken during an exceptionally busy frame that will always suffer no matter the bitrate, and they have been taken at a higher resolution than the sources, indicating processing not by either 2jzget or us. For the best comparison results, take a raw decoded frame from the video, pre processing, and use that instead.
As a side note, while the screenshot you sent for our release has blocked pretty hard, I'm impressed by how much detail the encode managed to retain.
@Judas
That screenshot is both busy and stable, that outer portion of the town is stable at that time frame, while the glow in the center of the hole is only moderately busy at best in movement. I'm going against what excaliburzone claimed in which they stated that your release is as good as those "100GB batches", nothing more. You using a more efficient encoder with helps your situation in producing a smaller encode. I'm not suggesting that you said it was better quality, and for the size of the file it serves a purpose if people are looking at encodes this small. I just stated that if you raised the bitrate, and had the right settings, you could probably get rid of the blocking while producing a very nice video somewhere in the 300MB to 500MB file range. If you want to continue to produce smaller encodes, that's fine, I'm not complaining about it at all, just refuting a comment from someone else. If I want to take on the task of making really nice encodes of Bleach I might do so myself, but if I did it, I would try to clean up the mess they did to the Blurays with temporal and spatial artifacts as well and do it completely right. I had a thought of taking the task on even though it might be a tremendous amount of work, but might be worth it now with the announcement that they are producing an anime of the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc. I'd have get a hold of the Blurays or a Remux of the untouched files, but since ADC went down over a year ago, I haven't looked for a new place for source files and content on anime. Suggestions are welcome.
I'm also not complaining about your comparison. I would love more people to compare different releases to decide which might be the highest quality. I am only commenting on your technique for comparison, which was compare upscaled screenshots from both sources. I think we can both agree that performing any processing to the images you are trying to compare is totally negating the point of the comparison in the first place: you want to tell the quality between the two sources themselves, not how your bilinear 2x upscale has performed.
Next time, I'd suggest extracting the raw png's and using those to compare. A good method for making sure you get the exact same frame is by using vapoursynth to demux and decode the frames for you. Otherwise, ffmpeg can be used in a pinch, and most decent media players have a 'pre processing' screenshot function (which I use to take the screens for our releases)
Cheers, EoE
Astonishing work man!! already downloaded everything related to bleach from your page and looking forward that 16:9 change and the new adaptation!! Thanks for everything!!
@omniboy I forgot to say that episodes 112+ are encoded with totally different settings and from untouched BDs, differently from previous batches. Please do a comparison with latest releases if you find other encodes
@Galahad721 You're welcome!
@Judas I think @omniboy has a point. I had brought this up with your Naruto Movie 2 encode which had a lot of artifacts. I had even posted some screenshots in your Discord channel (https://discordapp.com/channels/627194389873295380/627201614549221377/628824022225911809) but you hadn't reverted back with any comments on it. That being said, your Naruto movies were re-encodes so it could be because of that. It would be awesome if you could redo those using Bluray sources and without downmixing the audio to stereo while using these Opus settings: https://wiki.xiph.org/index.php?title=Opus_Recommended_Settings&mobileaction=toggle_view_desktop#Recommended_Bitrates
@omniboy is your Bleach screenshot comparison from the earlier rencodes by @Judas or from the later encodes directly from the Bluray? If it's from the Blurays then yeah the encode settings are insufficient for optimal quality
@Judas
Here's the untouched, un-upscaled png from the video's for a fair comparison as you wish. Yours is from episode 112 as it is the one I originally ripped the png from as I only have your episode 112 to 139 release, and the 2jzgte png if from episode 111 from their release. Both have the same Bleach opening and are the exact same frame, so that shows the frame with your newer settings. Like I said before, it's a solid small size encode which does show it's lack of bitrate at times with the blocking that's present in some of the more active scenes. Did you use opus for the audio in your other releases as well? Just wondering as you don't see it used much, but it is arguably a better compressor than mp3 or aac in smaller file sizes.

@Rohanroms
That is from episode 112 of Judas's new blu-ray 1080p release 1 minute and 1 second in during the Bleach opening, the one from the 2jzgte's release was done from episode 111 as both episode have the same opening, and 2jzgte hasn't release anything newer than episode 111 as of yet. If you look, the new comparison is with a non upscaled png posted above as Judas has asked for. I can't comment on his older Naruto releases, but what I can say about these Bleach releases is there are alot of the temporal and spatial artifacts you might see that are a product of the blu-ray itself from when it was upscaled by whomever they had upscale the anime for the blu-ray release. I've had thoughts of possibly doing some rips of the blu-rays while cleaning up some of the mess that is present in the blu-rays themselves. I'll have to see if I can find a blu-ray source or a demuxed source in order to make that happen as I'd like to have as clean of rips as possible, because once they start with the new arc next year, those episodes will surely blow the quality out of the water with these older episodes. We'll have to see, cleaning the blu-ray up might take some time to do, and it sucks that ADC is no longer around, as they were my source for DVD's and Blu-rays for a long time.
The differences that you can see in these screenshots are due to the filters that we used, especially the denoise which removed a lot of the grain and unavoidably discovered some artifacts like blocking or banding, it's not a matter a bitrate. We decided to operate like that for personal taste honestly. Anyway, if you wish to get an encode as similar as possible to an untouched bluray then you can't surely find it in a 200MB video, i've always considered my works a good compromise between quality and size, not the top in absolute quality.
About your Opus question, yes, I always use that.
@Judas
Thank you so much for this, been patiently waiting for the box set 5 and 6 and feels like forever. Appreciate all your hard work with this and the quality is good for the file size, but is it possibly to complete a second batch of a higher quality with an increased bit rate?
Nothing too crazy like 2jzgte but more so a file size/bit rate that in between 2jzgte or yours?
I would do it myself but I don't have the raw BD.
Thanks again
thank you! i first watched bleach in horrible qualities and i really wanted to do a nice rewatch, i'll wait for the next episodes by watching the ones you uploaded ^^
say you think you can double check the beginning of the episodes, cause I always hear the part of when are talking, the voices breaks apart or are distorted a bit with your releases.
Thanks so much for this. I just wanted to rewatch bleach and noticed the BD quality, but wasn't invested enough to dedicate the hard disk space. This solves all problems.
My single complaint/question would be if there's a way to default to the Japanese audio vs the English.Will you be continuing with the rest of the episodes?
For all the people asking about next episodes: yes, I will post them. But I'm waiting for Blurays to be released, next set with episodes 168-195 will come on 30th June.
@Judas I don't mind file sizes being slightly larger (around 300-500 MB) if there is a noticeable increase in sharpness so please know you don't have to feel pressured about making it as small as possible. I think the point of you waiting patiently for a BluRay release is for quality, so sharpness should take priority over file size. Just an opinion that my friends and I share. Thank you for your work.
