Ok, so finally watch first 3 episodes time to do review! I love the manga and have high hopes for the anime so here's the things one by one that I think. (Watch episode first before reading) Opening song/video - It sucks. Not sure what they were going for, but it would have worked better in the 90's. Character design - Since I'm familiar with manga not the novel I'll base off that. Manga designs were cooler but these ones aren't bad. Story pacing - While it loses points for the first few minutes, hell of a spoiler anime.....overall it's actually better than the manga. Manga just starts you off with him already friends with Erwin and then just give info dumps of background, then have him save Iina and Louise similar to this episode where they later become party members (more info dumps). Next chapter it goes back to when he met his master for, you guessed it, MORE info dumps! I liked how anime started with him as a kid (minus first few minutes) and worked it's why up. Though I do wish they kept that he became friends with Erwin first and how the plan to get recognized was just between Iina and Louise but oh well. Still handled better. Subs - Meh, I mean what do you expect nowdays. Voice work - So far no complaints, they chose who I think fit the main crew well. And the performance didn't seem bad to my ears at least. Animation quality - Not bad, I guess. Never been a good judge of that. Want a bigger action scene so I can judge that. There ARE a few mistakes you can notice if you look hard. Ending song/video - Typical low key song with the classic pointlessly running character(s), I do like it more than the opening though.
Subs done by pros hired by corporate doesn't have the same quality as some Fansubs back in the day... Things you don't want to ponder about eh?
Its obvious since fansubs often do it out of passion. Professionals are at the mercy of the deadline.
