Footnote:
HAV1T group encodes using AV1 codec. AV1 is more efficient than HEVC, and retains good visual quality even at low bitrates. Due to novelty of codec, playback might stutter. For optimal viewing experience we recommend using latest VLC or MPV.
Audio is encoded using Opus codec at 96kb/s stereo which provides great audio quality. We will continue to use it for HAV1T releases in the foreseeable future.
If you notice audio/subtitle desync or weird video artifacts, please comment below with a timestamp, we will try to fix those issues.
This was a painful release because I had to sync English audio to the video, there were no proper releases of it, bluray had banding and poor mastering. Hope you enjoy this release.

Thanks a lot. AV1 takes an awful long time to encode but the results are great.
AV1 has any inbuilt deband filter or external plugin filters like f3kdb needs to be used?
@Pirate0fThe9 I am not sure about the deband filter, but it definitely has denoising filter (and quite good I might add) and a bunch of others.
Never really looked into all the filters because it is so easy to screw up the settings.
I try to avoid (if possible) bad sources that have issues, and use 10bit to avoid banding, and in my opinion it works.
@Chilled I currently don't do anything lower than 1080p sadly(I might do lower res if anime was never released with higher resolution). The playback should improve with time, but as of right now you might get better performance watching it on the phone. Make sure to have the latest VLC app on it tho.
Does this release ue the same settings and encoder version as steis;gate ? i remember it not working on my phone using vlc but this one works, i'm gonna redownload it and see again if it works !
@chilled Encoder version is always changing, I use the latest available version at the beginning of the encode. My settings didn't change much except for crf value, which I decreased from 30 to 28.
i think there is an episode 24 to this if im not mistaken, also i just tried to play steins;gate (not this torrent but the first) again on my phone and it works good, i think vlc got an update that has a newer version of av1 decoder, i'm sure it was not able to play the last time i checked
@chilled there is an OVA that is not considered as an episode by MAL:

OVA:
https://myanimelist.net/anime/37492/Steins_Gate_0__Kesshou_Takei_no_Valentine_-_Bittersweet_Intermedio
I could have included it, but hunting down english dub and a proper bluray for it would have been painful to say the least
Yeah, there haven't been many assembly optimizations for AV1 10-bit decoding for x86_64 CPUs.
We did see overall improvements as time went on, especially with dav1d 0.6.0, and more recently, a small speed boost with 0.7.0.
But yeah, I prefer to encode in higher quality now vs down the road.
And we also tend to get the latest build of ffmpeg+aomenc, or the latest build of aomenc directly from the source for maximum efficiency.
You can easily find it here:
https://ci.appveyor.com/project/marcomsousa/build-aom/history
@OpusMaxE thank you for the info and for experimenting with this codec, and from the link you provided i see that the dev of the codec is taken seriously, given the pace at wchich new updates are posted !
Don't forget though.
We're not the ones mainly developing the reference AV1 decoder, that's mainly some people at Google, some from other entities/places, and just a few of us.
However, that doesn't mean we're not working hard to push it further, and gettng actual documentation out of the aomenc reference encoder lol.
