Hello!
Here is a [Link](https://www.deviantart.com/paraexo/art/RahXephon-Icon-854122388) for an icon file designed by me, i hope you like it!
------
[Here is a bunch of comparisons](https://slow.pics/c/8ToSkogx), 1=BDMV Vs 2=BDRip vs 3=DVDISO vs 4=DVDRip,
1: All comparisons has been taken from a 1080p screen,
2: If you wanna compare BDMV with DVDRip for example, press 1 and 4 on you keyboard...
3: You might think that the croping is wrong on the DVDRip, but i had to remove a two dead-lines from the bottom which doesn't appear constantly, you can see one of it on the first comparison,
4: I also shared the FLAC audio version because it's slightly better,
5: I will not do a DVDRip for the movie, because Blurays are better.
6: Personnaly, i like the DVDs better, it looks more original with real details, so make your choice, if you like sharpeness and clarity [get BDRips from here](https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1277134), and if you like originality and real details get this release.

For a normal and regular person yes, it's gonna look the same ^_^
But for someone with a deep vision each frame is totally different comparing with the others.
Sorry to say but, whilst this encode does look better than the BDs, the filtering that was applied to the source was rather detrimental.
See https://slow.pics/c/kDVHsHTy for a couple of examples.
In the first pair of screenshots you can see that the text on the screen to the left is not as legible, and the lines forming Kathy's necklace, the TERRA insignia on her left arm and a lot of other small details around the pilot seat look quite blurrier and less defined. In the second pair you can see the same issues—the scratches around the Vermin's chest and thighs became blobs, and other fine details and lines around the body look really smudged, /specially/ the Mu's fleshy bits.
Also, the video now renders at almost 650p, was the upscaling necessary here?
@type17_RAIDEN
Yes, henshin gave us an ordinary encode, he didn't remove any halos, aliasing, blocking or banding, and it's noticable on the comaprisons you've sent, so of course he will preserve more small details.
Otherwise, this show is fully corrupted with those effects which makes it ugly to watch, and that's why BDMVs are so bad, so here the encoder's decision comes, keep the problems, or sacrifice a proportion to fix the whole thing.
Well, as you say, the source was obviously not perfect and I do not oppose the idea of addressing its defects, but I think whether or not the trade-off of trying to address those issues at the expense having a final product with noticeable blurriness and loss of details is worth it is arguable.
And I do not know why there is a discrepancy in the colour levels, but as for the source Henshin definitively used the 2007 R2J DVD-BOX.
@type17_RAIDEN
That's what i did, but sometimes you just can't keep both when it's unfixable at weak thresholding, but i guess, Blurays are better for you if you care more about this kind of details, because i managed to remove a big part of those artifacts without noticable loss.
NGE was at least ~~memeable~~ watchable and had some iconic moments, but this series is just utterly retarded, revoltingly cringeworthy shit.
Literally the first sign, less than 5 seconds into episode 1:

The subs are also bleeding all over the place.
