Just download one of the many x265 rips that will be out in a couple of hours.

Many 1080p rips aren't worth it anyway.

lul. 720p Blu-ray is still worse quality wise than 1080p x265 :E And weights pretty much same. 1080p is looking kinda average on 4K OLED screen, so still. 720p would be XD @Glordit Sorry, but only Erai got quite good subs, other x265 up loaders got terrible subs.

@Rowan I have about 125TBs of space, just most is taken by anime already:P In all seriousness though, it's not a matter of space, it's a matter of internet, not everyone has good connection you know, mine for example on bad days only gets like 100KBs down at most which makes 1+GB releases take bit over a hour to finish or maybe even several.

What was wrong with the encode they used before whatever it is groups use now for the last ~2 years? I remember when HS changed from their old encode and it confused me, because suddenly files were more than twice the size and they looked and sounded about the same, if not worse in some areas. Maybe I'm misremembering things, though, but I know for certain that some audio issues started to pop up after the change. Also, for real, is there a legitimate reason as to why they can't do an x265 encode if it has better quality and smaller file sizes? I assume it takes a lot longer to encode if that's the case, so then is it just an issue of wanting to get the files out quicker? Keep in mind that I'm genuinely curious and also that I know virtually nothing about video encoding - my brain is clogged with other useless stuff. Oh, and I'm an audiophile :)

@SleepingGrim Just take the mini-encodes and download the ass file from animetosho and slap it on the video. It's not that hard.

If you're storing anime files on your ssd you're legitimately a retard @Kamiyan93 SSD superiority doesn't exist in 2020, we all have them as prices are cheaper than hell now, the real question is why you only have 1tb of space available on your PC? I have 8tb give or take in JUST Anime files, all on HDDs because it's the logical choice for video storage, like any company would do. My EVO is reserved for games and the OS, you know, stuff where speed actually matters. I wouldn't expect only casual seasonal watchers like you though to actually keep series downloaded for long, pleb.

1.4GB 1080p is just ridiculously bloated.

I don't have 8tb of storage space, if you are looking for long term storage, maybe there are better solutions rather than a SSD or HDD for storage, like optical storage media. Maybe flash sticks, i dunno. I use SSD and HDD, i couldn't live with just 500gb of ssd storage for anime, so i have my bigger HDD for that, my HDD is 3TB before format if im not mistaken. It feels wasteful to just store video files on HDD's and add new ones as you need more, i'm curious about the environmental and price difference between HDD and optical media and flash sticks where memory capacity is prioritized over data transfer speeds.

*throws random question into the conversation as if it was a folding chair in a riot* Sooo, why are all of Erai's uploads audio full of reverberation / distortion as of about 3 weeks ago?? What was changed in the encode or whatever?? I've seen multiple other people comment on it in other places but no one ever seems to answer. Right off the bat though I'll point out that none of my settings have been changed / I am using the same player / no updates & no older episodes at least 3-4 back have any sound issues. Just the last 3-4 episodes of everything I've downloaded from them, so I'm confused to say the least.

Kirakishou eh you still have 2 basic types of releases quick and custom, you'll have to wait on the custom ones because it takes time to deal with re encoding and subtitle changes, quick are going to be fast dirty and bloated. I need a new harddrive but for years now I grab the 480 or 720 and keep them on hand until a custom is done, not many would want a bit starved 700-900mb 1080 re encode of 1.4gb site rip much less pay to make it worth the time/effort. Your better off waiting on better encoded smaller files if size is a big concern because the sites like funi,CR,ect do not optimize compression at all and its getting worse as they get larger and more easy to stream but more annoying to download and keep..

Why do you guys have to be so elitist about storage space? It's silly. To begin with, there is not much point in keeping stuff on your HD after you've watched it, unless you're one of those that watch stuff multiple times. Even if you think about people who want to have the series as well, they'll probably download the whole season in a single torrent, so you keeping individual episodes isn't going to help much. I myself keep the files during their season, and I clean it all up at the end of each season. Also, for some people quality matters more, and for others it is size. There's nothing wrong with that. But if there is one encoding with better quality *and* size, it's a no-brainer that everybody should go for it. That said, it has already been mentioned that erai-raws focus on speedy releases, rather than waiting for the better encoding. Accept that too, and look for other sources.

Ishikami I archive just about everything I watch because the streaming sites are poor quality or have bad subtitles not to mention there are days the internet is down(rural USA/Europe lulz), so I archive all I can for my media server. While I wait on new shows I watch old shows or films or TV shows or britcoms or brit cop dramas. My tastes are rather wide and varied and Netflix has lost the mix of stuff it offered so streaming is out of the question for me as its more efficient to buy a hard drive every year than pay 12-20$ a month. That said those in the 2nd/3rd world internet is even more wonky so you are lucky to download lower streaming quality stuff to put on disc so you have something on hand while you wait on the internet to work right or just wait while it takes a week or 2 to download 2gb of data. You forget half the world basically lives in not much better than the dialup era.... That said you are very correct in that people need to find a group that focuses on minimal size for the best quality you can get. I have thought about simple re encodes but they'd be 720 at under 400mb but its kinda alot of busy work and space.
