Thx man

isn’t this just zastin’s releases but worse?

@herkz
Worse how? Video quality wise they are about the same from some comparisons I’ve done. But my release is half the size per ep. And improved the debanding filtering done on these than the previous versions. Ep 7 and onwards has the same debanding filtering.
If you prefer the Zastin subs over the Rom&Rem ones, then I guess it’s worse for you. But in the end its pretty subjective which is “worse”.
Is mine worse? Dunno, maybe, I don’t have time to do side by side comparisons and check every little detail. Zastin does good releases, but they also take a very long time to release an ep. Don’t even think they have released ep 6 yet.

worse subs, mostly.

Well, not much I can do about that. Rom&Rem subs are good enough imo. I just do this for fun ?

crf > bitrate

It’s a 2-pass encoding run. And I got better results and lower sizes using 2-pass average bit rate over CRF. The earlier episodes where done with CRF, and I had issues with certain scenes ending up with extra artifacts and banding issues.
Doing a 2-pass run takes a bit longer. But ended up getting a much better bit distribution throughout the video.

But. after some thinking I decided I should maybe do some more tests with CRF. I wont redo any of the previous eps if i do start using CRF again. As quite frankly they look great as is. But if I get a good CRF setting going then that will be a huge time saver for future eps.

I love the gif. I’ll make sure to spread it

Nice job!
@herkz if you find it’s trash, just do better.

Wow! Nice thanks :)

Seems kind of pointless to have a debate on video encoder settings when the source is a mish-mash of broadcast and streaming service (which by definition have already subtracted significant visual and audio data from the master sources)… Weebing out over encoding details matters more for blu-ray rips, where the generational loss from master source to BD pressing is minimum for video and none for audio (usually, at least for newer stuff anyway).
NetGhost
Agreed, It would be even better if the video source was shared in it’s original AVC8bit format. Although that only solves half the problem. The mish mash of video sources changes the total number of frames making it difficult to sync the subs up to another uncensored source. re-encoding the video back to it’s original format is easy enough. However even more data loss occurs, but It’s worth it to watch Anime the way it’s presented. This was how everyone watch Anime before 2010 when a new generation of fans showed up.

Resyncing subs is not hard. There are 3 parts to an episode. The prologue, first and second half. Takes me less than 5 min to resync an episode. I just select each section and adjust their timings using a program like Aegisub.
And why the fuck should I keep it in 8bit AVC? It has worse compression ratios than HVEC. And 8 bit has more issues with color banding, Not to mention that you get smaller bitrates sizes with 10bit.

Thank you.
