Japanese actually do celebrate Christmas although it has a different connotation than in Western countries. While in the West it is connected to the birth of Christ and usually a family-oriented holiday, in Japan it is a holiday usual enjoyed with friends instead of family, without the Christian connotations ... aside from those that are actually Christian, which his a very small minority in Japan.
I've known a Christian family in Japan and they celebrated Christmas more religiously than some Western young people do. But that's really the exception. For most it's a holiday to decorate, go shopping and eat cake with friends :D
