[Aegisub](https://github.com/Ristellise/AegisubDC/releases/tag/9214) is free, and is the fansubbing standard. I've seen it run fine on the crappiest of laptops. You will want to look at [the manual](https://aegisub.shinon71.moe/), and [some guides](https://unanimated.github.io/guides.htm).
