[Ascendance of a Bookworm](https://myanimelist.net/anime/39468/Honzuki_no_Gekokujou__Shisho_ni_Naru_Tame_ni_wa_Shudan_wo_Erandeiraremasen) Video: [[sam]](https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1473516) Signs, OP, ED: [[GJM]](https://nyaa.iss.one/user/GoodJobMedia?f=0&c=0_0&q=bookworm) Dialogue: Crunchyroll Editing, QC: motbob The official script for this show was more entertaining than GJM's, for both good and bad reasons. Everything's been edited for LN consistency. If anyone wants to make a BD release of this with GJM dialogue, I recommend that they use the signs/songs from here, since I made various fixes. There are alternate honorifics tracks in this release. Set your media player to play “enm” language tracks by default to automatically play honorifics tracks. Please leave feedback in the comments, good or bad. Please read this short [playback guide](https://gist.github.com/motbob/754c24d5cd381334bb64b93581781a81) if you want to know how to make the video and subtitles of this release look better. All components of this release are released into the public domain to the [greatest extent possible](https://gist.github.com/motbob/9a85edadca33c7b8a3bb4de23396d510).

wait this is actually a good release. Good shit mate. get back to bake tho
Fingers crossed you'll be doing season 2 as well ....
\>Translation: Sriram Gurunathan (Crunchyroll) Ah, that's why. Based release. Picking up for the script alone lol
Rub-a-dub-dub, thanks for the worms.

I didn't know memesubbing was still a thing until I read this script. It's glorious.
I assumed that GJM based their script off CR's script since I know that Sriram used to be part of the fansubbing scene. Could be wrong tho

Nope, GJM was an original translation.
> Translation: Sriram Gurunathan (Crunchyroll) Who? Is he good TL?
Yes. He's one of the best TLs in the market. A former fansub TL for many groups (Commie, gg, Underwater, UTW, FFF, Vivid, etc.), and a recently retired prosub TL with an extensive [resume](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=135634). And that's only his anime prosub work.

was planning this recently, thanks
GJM is garbage. Change my mind. ***drink coffee*** 😎😎
I wonder which subs are better.
CR's are more "fun", but that makes them tone-deaf/out of character at a lot of points. Possibly more accurate since Futsuu is a great translator, though. More power to motbob if he thinks they're better edited, I suppose.
thanks the dude legit had an extensive resume didn't know he used to be in the fansubs scene also why not include the gjm subs with this release?
I wonder what being "tone-deaf" means here. Do they not match the current emotions the director was trying to convey during the scenes?
@Interruptor These subs, in several places, are guilty of the thing people erroneously accuse us of constantly: Inserting jokes where they aren't and/or shouldn't be. That's largely what is meant by tone-deaf.

^ This criticism is accurate, but it shouldn't be taken to mean that jokes were inserted during very serious scenes or anything (that I remember, anyway). During serious scenes, the translator did at least once use some poetic/"creative" turns of phrase that made things quite a bit more emotional for me. I was hit hard by the conclusion to the Lutz-acceptance scene, and when I read GJM's version of it afterwards, I knew I was making the right decision in using CR. In the end, the greatest praise and criticism that can be given to this script is that it's full of all kinds of brilliant ideas that are included without regard to whether they're "appropriate." In one of Commie's Monogatari releases by the same translator, he wrote a godlike line that was absolutely not justified by the underlying Japanese. For me it was one of the best lines in the whole series, but the idea behind it was invented out of whole cloth by the translator, so wasn't it disqualified as being a "best line"? I guess I know my answer to that question, since I did not edit the translator's idea out when making my own release. So that's the perspective that I'm recommending this script from.
Now I wanna know which line you're talking about regarding monogatari. Also, did he work on the other seasons of Ascendande too? Should I expect another release for the s2?

I am planning on doing S2, but it might require me to do a lot of editing work, since this translator is *actually* incapable of writing "formal" characters without slipping into casual language. RIP Ferdinand's dialogue.

>(Commie, gg, Underwater, UTW, FFF, Vivid, etc.) Who'da thunk only Commie would be left...
>Now I wanna know which line you’re talking about regarding monogatari. I'm gonna guess it was "I bit your tongue."
Commie was the Cartel boss all along, as expected.
>In one of Commie’s Monogatari releases by the same translator, he wrote a godlike line that was absolutely not justified by the underlying Japanese. For me it was one of the best lines in the whole series, but the idea behind it was invented out of whole cloth by the translator, so wasn’t it disqualified as being a “best line”? I guess I know my answer to that question, since I did not edit the translator’s idea out when making my own release. So that’s the perspective that I’m recommending this script from. not sure how you could know it was him and not the editor, or a different translator (since multiple worked on the show), or possibly some random person in the staff channel on irc (who definitely helped out from time to time with random lines). though if you say what line it is, i could easily confirm. >Who’da thunk only Commie would be left… commie is immortal m8
better dead than red
Why in the world was the audio transcoded to AAC?
