Here is the first episode of Uchuu Senkan Yamato III, or “Space Battleship Yamato: Season 3,” with full English subtitles!
Don’t confuse this with the 2199 and 2200 remakes–this is the original season 3 from 1980, which we got in the states as “Star Blazers: The Bolar Wars.” In the original Japanese version, there are plenty of name changes (Wildstar is Kodai, Nova is Yuki, and Venture is Shima), as well as a whole new explanation of the season’s year-to-solve-the-problem plot device.
The raw came from a torrent uploaded by an anonymous poster that featured .AVI rips from the remastered R2 DVD set. This was the only unsubbed season I could pull down; season 2’s torrent is dry as a bone. I also worked from a Japanese sub script for this one, so this may be the most accurate & professional-sounding translation I’ve ever done, say for a few lines I shortened because they were too long for the time allotted. The fansub is a soft-sub mkv with subs styled like an old VHS tape, since the show has its origins in the 80’s.
Not much happens in this first episode, but you can expect more of these in the future; episode 2 is translated, but needs an edit & re-time, and episode 3 needs everything. Eps 2 & 3 will probably come out in a batch next week or the first week of March.
I hope you enjoy this extremely rare piece of sci-fi anime history, and be sure to seed for as long as you’re able!

Oh nice thanks man the only other release here are basically HK subs level quality so it’s nice to see somebody do decent subtiles for this
HenshinMan (uploader)
@hchcsen: You’re welcome for the fansub! I saw that Season 1 already had a BD subbed torrent, so I went hunting & found this instead. I don’t think anyone’s ever digisubbed this before, so it is sort-of a first.

Why do you make a folder for a single episode?
HenshinMan (uploader)
I have a habit of being extremely organized when it comes to downloads/uploads, and if I ever download a single episode of something that isn’t in a folder, I have the worst time finding it. If you want me to stop doing it, I will; it just comes from personal experience and preference.

Thanks, its much better. Only issue is the low quality encode, do you access to U2.dmhy? They have the full R2J set. A new encode or remux would be great.
HenshinMan (uploader)
@Ratman: I’ve never even HEARD of U2.dmhy. Guess I’m still new at this. What exactly is it, and how would I go about downloading the R2J set? I could definitely give it a new x264 or x265 encode; I’m sure everyone would love that!
EDIT: Oh, and you’re welcome for the fansub. It was a real pleasure to work on, and I hope to do more eps soon!
Ratman
Its a private torrent site but can be hard to get access. Maybe I’ll upload the DVD set here soon.

That would work out just fine. Just leave a comment here when you do & I’ll get right on that. Thanks for the help!

@HenshinMan
Will you do Be Forever Yamato?
It’s the previous entry to Yamato’s season 3 and it too has only pretty bad subtitles.
Edit: Forgot to thank you. Many thanks, was waiting for someone to translate the third season (and maybe Be Forever) to start the original series.
HenshinMan (uploader)
@Sgyr: If I can find another Japanese subtitle script for it (like I did for all of Season 3), then I probably could, and I think I know where to start looking. Thanks for the suggestion, although I’d like to finish Season 3 before I take on Be Forever Yamato. I’ve never done a movie before, and that’s going to be quite a task. You’re welcome for the fansub too, it was my pleasure working on such a classic like this one!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4Qd1eL_wMU Found a VHS rip of Be Forever Yamato that could be OCRd. The current subs for the BD are pretty rough, these are better though could use some QC I guess
HenshinMan (uploader)
@MD_Prometh: Thank you for the link to the video! I’m not 100% up to speed on OCR’ing just yet, but it’s definitely an option. I don’t mind editing/fixing subs that are rough, though; that’s what I’m doing with ARR’s old scripts for Groizer-X, after all.

Oh My! what have i stumbled across here! 😍
HenshinMan (uploader)
@Mataichi: Ha, you just found what is probably the only fansubber who’s taking Uchuu Senkan Yamato III seriously! I just completed episode 2 last night; it’s here: nyaa.iss.one/view/1495236. Episode 1 uses an old raw, but episodes 2 and up use a brand-new, HEVC 10-bit encode that was done right from the R2J ISOs. Have fun watching Yamato III in its original Japanese, the way it was meant to be seen!
MrAnon
Holy crap, do you intend to do all of these? You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for it.
If you need clean original JP DVD RAWs (as in R2J, best image quality) feel free to let me know.
Edit: Nevermind, seems somebody else already posted it.
Kagemusha
I don’t understand why people are writing about the lack of subtitles for this season. I have them, Also softsubbed season you can find on animbytes.
The quality of these subtitles leaves much to be desired, but nevertheless they exist.
Zuckerberg
@Kagemusha That’s why people are fucking complaining. We want subs that aren’t HK bootlegs.
