Okay, so, I started with [hchcsen's release](https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1603262) and made the following changes: * Reencoded so it is no longer a batshit insane 255.6 GB for a lazy upscale of a low-budget anime from the 90s. There really isn't that much detail. * Added chapter titles, because "Chapter 1" through "Chapter 5" isn't helpful. I didn't modify the chapters, only gave them names. * Removed unused fonts, because hchcsen muxed all fonts into every episode whether they were used in that episode or not. That wastes way more space than you'd think. * Changed the main font, because that was one of the ugliest fonts I've ever had the displeasure of laying eyes on. I went with the main font from the Gundam SEED release for a little bit of consistency. * Fixed the occasional typo. * Removed the pillarboxing, because WTF. * Redid all of the margins and typesetting, because removing the pillarboxing breaks that stuff. Yeah, so hchcsen's release only works for archival purposes, not for regular people to actually use to watch anime. Fun fact: I originally made my own version of this from scratch, using the direct, unmodified ASS-conversion of the official subs from [here](https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1048329), except I switched them from embedded fonts to standard muxed fonts, because embedded fonts take up twice as much space. But hchcsen's version turned out to be better than anything I had been working with. So I scrapped my already complete work and switched over to this. Since hchcsen already modified the official subs to make fixes, I decided to screw leaving the subs alone myself and went ahead and also fixed the capitalization of the episode titles (the translator was someone with the knowledge of capitalization rules equivalent to your average person with no writing experience, and it tickled my OCD). And fixed the typos in the titles on TheTVDB. And replaced the crappy fansub titles with the official titles on TheMovieDB. And added the "Kidou Shin Seiki" and "Kidou Shinseiki" (because MAL) alternate series titles to both (including "ō" variants), so organization and media center software that uses those databases will actually be able to figure out what this is. No effort had been put into this show anywhere. But seriously though, at least that lunacy gave my encoder virtually lossless video to work with, so it could compress it even more efficiently and get even smaller file sizes. Even tiny imperfections that are imperceptible to humans from a previous lossy compression can add to the amount of detail an encoder needs to compress, increasing the final file size. Video: 1080p x265 10-bit (HEVC main10) Audio: Japanese (Opus) Subtitles: Modified Official English (ASS)

I wouldn't normally do this, but I'm probably going to release an h264 version of this one as well. Because if someone can't use h265, 255.6 GB for a single series is probably not going to work for them either. Encoding aside, all the work I already did for this can be easily reused for that.
G-X 1080p! nice! thank you! No NC-OPEDs?
>lazy upscale of a low budget anime from the 90s lol
@XerBlade actually, you find an Alternative probably a decent encode x264 **"watchable"* ***https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1046332***
> Yeah, so hchcsen’s release is only fit for archival purposes, not for real people to actually use to watch anime. Shows how little you know about older anime You can't compress grain filled anime down as low as you did without nuking details in the image

@ChadXBeriz Tried that one. Not impressed. Also, 83 GB for a 39-episode 90s anime is still kinda ridiculous. I remember taking a look at the encoding settings and wondering what they were thinking. They're not even good settings for going all-in on placebo AF quality without caring about file size. It's like they just picked settings at random. Although the fact that I was able to get it at all when it only had 1 seeder was pretty incredible. Already encoding, BTW. And just to clarify, I'm not reencoding *this*. I'm encoding from the original source again. Which is just the video ripped straight from the JP BluRays. That massive file size is what happens if you do that and is why no one does that.

@hchcsen You've proven repeatedly that you don't know the first thing about encoding. Every time someone has brought that up, your response only served to prove it further. You don't even seem to understand the *point* of encoding. And uploading a 255 GB 39-episode anime is utter nonsense. Heck, many people don't even have drives that big.
I well know how to encode, what I don't know is how to encode without making the encode worse than the source and therefore making the encode unnecessary over that You don't understand the point just looking at episode 1 the lineart has been nuked and detail is basically all gone making this encode worse most of the chinsium shit that's being released

@hchcsen It is impossible to encode something without losing quality unless you use lossless compression. Every time you reencode something, the quality is going to go down. That is rule #1 of lossy compression. *The entire purpose of encoding is to reduce the file size, period*, not to enable pristine quality. And lossless encoding is unrealistic *unless it's purely for archival purposes*. Whenever you reencode something, no matter how high-quality the settings are, you're going to see flaws if you look at still images. The point is to keep it from being *too* noticeable when someone is watching the show normally and casually. And watching this normally, it still looks fine. There's always going to be a trade-off, but whenever you're working on the Internet and not for some offline purpose, the scales of importance always tip in favor of file size. I've seen people get up in arms even about loss of image quality due to extreme compression for images embedded within web pages, and every single one of them inevitably gets told to check their privilege sooner or later. Most people have limited bandwidth to work with. Most people have limited resources to work with in general. tl;dr Reducing the quality does not make an encode unnecessary unless there is no reduction in file size. P.S. This show doesn't look great, it has never looked great, and it is never going to look great.
You do know the competent encoders here like sam, vodes and reza encodes and filters to improve the picture over the raw BD making their encodes look better than source

BTW, if anyone here wants to make their own pillarbox-less release (like every other version I've tried) while using these subs (which are as-faithful-as-humanly-possible reproductions of hchcsen's subs for use with video without the pillarboxing, minus swapping out Odense for Gandhi Sans and fixing a handful of typos I happened to spot during the conversion), the subs from this release should work with anything. You can consider this a shortcut to using hchcsen's subs (which IMHO are the best subs available for this show) without having to do the work of converting them to the different video layout yourself.
This looks like shit, kill yourself
@XerBlade for 90's anime's era don't talk small to them, the problem is how they made the remaster scan from 35mm film to produce fine scans I recommend you get from EG's releases of early Series Gundam's you'll surprise how good compared to their source lineart, the beauty of grains **( I'm not talking about the static noise )** Narrowing down you can't tell the difference because it matters the Display you have for encoding in order to get superior quality I'm telling you is not everyday encoding settings in vaypour & avisynth for fixing (Banding, AA, telecine, Noise) and etc.
guessing OP has never heard of filtering

Filtering is not part of encoding. It's applied before encoding. And by the way, filtering can't somehow add detail.
Tomino would be sad.
thanks for this, but you think you could of also included a second track of subs from NakamaSub, given that even the official subs would change the wording of some phrases?
