Raw taken from philosophy-raws: https://nyaa.iss.one/view/464659
Subs taken from Festum: https://nyaa.iss.one/view/721107
There wasn't a subbed version of this in BD 1080p-ish with subs so i made one for myself and figured I'd share it.
I made some minor edits to the subs
Big thanks to Philosophy-Raws and Festum

[Mobius] Soukyuu no Fafner - Right of Left [BDRIP][Hi10P FLAC][1424X1068].mkv (1.1 GiB)
Thank you so much for this! Forgot this was even a gap that needed filling, excellent to have a more definitive release for such an important part of Fafner.
You're very welcome. I'll be working on a couple more fafner things in the coming days/weeks so look forward to that.
On a side note If anyone still has [Dairy] aria the natural and [Dairy] aria the animation ep11 v2, i would really appreciate a reseed
- The subs YCbCr Matrix doesn't match the video (not that it really matters since dialogue's black and white and the signs aren't noticeable but still..)
- You removed the dialogue @ 0:00:18.30?
- The border for the insert song lyrics / dialogue wasn't adjusted after scaling so it's extra glowy / larger than originally intended.
- Decided to leave out the chapters from philosophy-raws for some reason?
- The newline breaks are a bit unnecessarily since the subs were already naturally splitting where you broke them.
Just minor nitpicky things. The one line you did change is better though, thanks. Shame no one ever got around to making a definitive release for everything. It really should get a proper new encode and full sub QC / TS edit but best of luck with the future fafner releases.
Please look at [Techmod] for Exodus (Dekinai Edit) and of course [Alvis] for The Beyond. I don't believe anyone edited Dead Aggressor or Heaven and Earth so would have to convert the subs from philosophy-raws to .ass.
@Mabby I did remove the subs at that time, I played it back a bunch of times and did not hear any dialogue.
I didn't intend to remove the chapters, i must have mixed up a setting.
The line breaks were added because on my prefered video player (iina) the lines did not break by itself unfortunately.
This is more or less the first time i've ever done any of this so things like the YCbCr matrix flew right over my head. If you are willing to give me advice on how to improve or where i can find some good resources, I am more than happy to learn. The same the adjustment for scaling.
Do you mean learn from how alvis and techmod did their subs?
> did not hear any dialogue.
It sounds like ute (撃て) to me, just muffled.
> prefered video player (iina) the lines did not break by itself unfortunately
How odd since iina seems to be based on mpv & libass. ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯ Upstream mpv is fine in any case.
> how to improve or where i can find some good resources
A lot of editors either use Aegisub or SubtitleEdit. Aegisub has not been updated officially in years but there are forks that still maintain it. SubtitleEdit is a bit more modern but the workflow is more involved so ymmv with its conversions.

mpv iirc should attempt to scale subtitle resolution up to the video resolution regardless of what is set in the .ass. When you load the original Festum (960x720) subs on the 1080p vid, they appear exactly the same size as your scaled one - just with a less extreme glow / border. If you compare your scaled Festum to the original Festum release, you will notice your scaled ones don't match the same font size for the songs. Normally this isn't that big of an issue and it _is_ generally intended you try matching the subs to the video it's muxed on, just automatic scaling fixes is not always perfect when adjusting font weights / settings and specific TS positions. Good to double check everything still looks correct, especially for fade / blur tags since those can appear too strong at higher resolutions if scaled improperly.

Subs matching video color matrix is important so any TS'd signs that were originally matched to SD/TV/DVD video is corrected to match the HD/BD color space. Though colors can sometimes still be off so a quick QC check is good to do. [See my comment here for more info.](https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1560701#com-29)

More-so use those releases as a base to edit from (or accept as-is) if you get to those since I _believe_ they are currently the best available subs for each respective season. Unless you plan on doing an original TL for the TV editions or can find more official subtitles, they were decent.
I appreciate the help and I'll definitely check out the links after some sleep.
I'll check for the dialogue again.
I am planning on doing alvis + reinforce next for the beyond but that's gonna take some major retiming.
I would not mind doing exodus too. Any chance you or anyone you know has reinforce exodus? It has no seeds
Sorry, can't help there.. I just have Techmod's release for Exodus and ReinForce muxed with Alvis for The Beyond, plus philosophy-raws release for Dead Aggressor / Heaven and Earth. You might want to compare existing encodes if you can find things seeded anywhere public or private -- ReinForce might not actually be the best. 😭 Someone please encode all of Fafner.
Good advice i found them on ru.
I might ask around to see if anyone is willing to help me compare raws. I'll try to do it myself too but i would love to not have another repeat of festum vs philosophy, the colors were so different and I had no idea which one had the original colors.
I been checking Fafner every other day hoping for Behind the Line to be subbed since it released back in May then I finally see a purple upload which made me gasp (I felt it in my heart) then I read the title and its not Behind the Line. The wait continues. lol
