**Title:** Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! (The Eminence in Shadow) - S02E01 **Video:** HEVC 10bit 1920x1080 **Audio:** AAC 48KHz Japanese **Subtitles:** English **A/V Source:** Judas - https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1724660 **Info:** I'm just an old anime nerd that used to TL/Time for some small fansub groups back in the day. I decided to make the subtitles nicer since all the groups just use the same sub file, plus I was bored. I might keep doing this, it's not too time-consuming. I miss old fansub groups. Comments are welcome. I tried to balance "background talk" with "foreground talk" since this show has a lot of people talking over one another. Background talk is gray, smaller, italic, and at the top of the screen. It still can be difficult to find the perfect balance. Also corrected a sign sub that was overlapping dialogue. Other than that, this is identical to the Judas release, so great filesize to quality ratio. Enjoy. **Edit:** I just realized I didn't dress up the song subs at all, sorry about that. I don't think it's worthy of doing a v2, but if I keep doing these, I will be sure to catch it next time. ![alt text](https://glsubs0.files.wordpress.com/2023/10/eiss2e1-1.png "Img1") ![alt text](https://glsubs0.files.wordpress.com/2023/10/eiss2e1-2.png "Img1") ![alt text](https://glsubs0.files.wordpress.com/2023/10/eiss2e1-3.png "Img1")

> all the groups just use the same sub file SubsPlus+ has already restyled and done various QoL enhancements Also that grey dialogue is pretty horrendous

>Also that grey dialogue is pretty horrendous @Animorphs Any recommendation on a good way to handle the background talk/foreground talk situation? Back in the day, we were doing a lot of fancy shit like coloring dialogue per character, but that got tedious and was kind of cheesy. Perhaps a bit too much. I will take a look at SubPlus+ on your recommendation! After all, if they're doing what I am doing, but better, I can leave it in their capable hands.

Here's the SubsPlus+ version for those interested in more versions! They are definitely doing a better job on these subs than the main rip/recode groups. https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1724557 @Animorphs Thanks for the heads up, I think I may not need to continue. Just reviewing that version you mentioned, the sign is still overlapped by dialogue at 6:05. I thought it was my player, but it does it in VLC(3.0.18 debian) and MPV(0.36.0 flatpak) so I am pretty sure, though I am always paranoid about that stuff since most people run Windows and it might be doing something weird on linux. I otherwise love their font choices, and italics for inner monologue is 100% better. They seem to be top-titling similarly to what I did, but in the same font and color. That may be better than graying down the color (I went for 200x200x200 gray to oppose 255x255x255 white for normal subs, but putting it at the top is probably all that is needed. Over-complicating is what I do, haha!) Thanks again for the heads up on them! This may be the most complicated example of Cunningham's Law I have ever participated in. (The best way to get the right answer on the internet is not to ask a question; it's to post the wrong answer.) This version I put out is a very involved wrong answer. :P
yeh SubsPlus+ certainly isn't flawless, but easily a big improvement on what HIDIVE serves up. If you wanted to continue doing this then it might be worth just working off them as a base, and making tweaks such as the sign positioning and such for overlaps, which is a shortfall of theirs. Even with the second screenshot you posted in the description, it would be preferable to move the English sign translation up or down a bit so there's zero overlap with the Japanese sign, and then just \an8 the dialogue rather than moving to the middle-ish position you've got it in And as a general recommendation for alt dialogue, what SubsPlus+ has done is typical these days, where you keep the same styling but put it at the top (\an8) Also nothing wrong with giving it a go, as long as you're open to feedback (which you clearly are, which is good)
Oh cool I was gonna wait for the Shadow Garden subs but these should be fine too
