Consider this my first attempt at an amateur localization.
Utilizing the source file and MTL's fools got us, a few Japanese-to-English dictionaries, my own knowledge of colloquial English, as well as a thorough understand of Re:Zero's lore and character, plus years of sub consumption, this was the best I could come up with.
Just as well, I cleaned up the timings, and did what I could to keep the hard-subs blocked with positioning.
The last guy who subbed this really screw up something with the timings, or maybe I did, but I fixed it all, I hope.
I sincerely hope you find it agreeable.
Seeing as I went for the localization angle, I did my best to ensure that the dialogue properly characterizes the speaker, making good use of their individual language quirks.
That being said, I can totally understand if someone finds some of the liberties I took to be egregious.
For instance:
- Characters who refer to themselves in the Third Person should have that reflected more
- Made for SURE to give Beatrice her "I suppose" and "In fact" quirk, without using it for every line she speaks.
- I tried inserting some more anachronistic language into Emilia's lines without going into "ye old english".
- Along the same lines, I didn't even try to mimic the way the novel translators characterize Priscilla with words like "Thine" and "Mineself" because I find it kinda hard to read.
- All the characters with a Kansai dialect now have it reflected heavily in the wording of their dialogue. This in particular I can see someone finding issues with. I did my best.
- A buttload of idioms and phrases that are probably heavily American have been used. For this, I apologize if it displeases you.
- Funnily enough, Felix only ever uses his kitty-kat lingo once, and only has about 3 lines.
- For Lilliana's songs, I did my best to include and omit words that would help better match the syllabic and musical structure of her lyrics, but I doubt that would be universally understood.
All changes were prioritized in the order of Flow>Characterization>TL Accuracy>Localization.
This was way more tedious, and surprisingly, more fun than I thought it would be. I got really immersed in the characters, more than ever before.
Please enjoy. Feel free to point out any errors.
PS. I struggled simply to upload this, because this site no longer accepts new accounts or alloys anonymous uploading. Luckily I had an unverified one from many years ago, but otherwise, my work on this would have been wasted.
Namaste.
