In 2023, GKIDS released a 4K UHD version of Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water (ふしぎのうみのナディア) in the UK. This version is widely regarded as a very poor upscale. GKIDS claimed they were innocent, stating that the source material came directly from NHK and that they performed no additional processing. Many people believe they were lying. Just yesterday (March 1, 2026, East-Asia local time), NHK broadcast a **4K Remaster** version of the show on their satellite BS8K channel. The quality is exactly the same: random smeared lines, crushed fine details, and heavy aliasing/jaggies everywhere. This confirms that GKIDS was not lying, this is indeed the things they received from Japan: a terrible digital upconversion (possibly done by qoop(former Qtec) with their supreme **FORS AI**? Who knows), not a new scan/remaster created from the original film. So that's the whole story. If you like the series, **stick with the earlier Blu-ray releases and enjoy those.** *There are no plans to upload the BS8K version since the files are enormous and it holds basically no value.*
